Dr. Katharine Brooks is the creator of the Wise Wanderings™ career coaching system and has been providing career guidance to thousands of college students for over twenty years, specializing in the career needs of liberal arts, humanities, and science majors. She has also worked extensively with college students with attention deficit disorder and learning disabilities. She is a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in Texas and Pennsylvania, a nationally certified counselor (NCC), and a distance certified counselor (DCC).
Dr. Brooks has been teaching courses relating liberal arts and science majors to the workplace since 1991. Courses she has designed and taught include “The Liberal Arts in Business”, “The Liberal Arts in Management”, and “The Real World: The Workplace in the Movies.” She currently teaches the “Major in the Workplace” course series at The University of Texas College of Liberal Arts. These unique courses focus exclusively on connecting individual majors to the workplace.
Dr. Brooks’ expertise in career issues related to liberal arts students and careers has been recognized in nationally-syndicated columns and publications. She provides career coaching training and consulting nationally through highly successful “Career Coaching Intensives” she created for the National Association of Colleges & Employers (NACE). Her article “Making the Most of Your Liberal Arts Degree” has appeared for the past four years in Job Choices for Business and Liberal Arts Students published by NACE.
Dr. Brooks has written numerous articles for career services professionals and students on such topics as marketing a liberal arts degree and career coaching strategies for liberal arts students. She has been quoted extensively in national newspaper articles and columns over the past fifteen years including Joyce Lain Kennedy’s columns, The Chicago Tribune, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Cosmopolitan, the Associated Press, and CNN/Fortune. She regularly presents at national and regional career counseling conferences on topics related to career coaching and liberal arts students. She served on the Educator’s Advisory Board for Walt Disney World’s College Recruiting Program. She regularly consults with university and college career centers and received a grant to study international employment in Europe.
Dr. Brooks has a doctorate in Educational Psychology and a master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from West Virginia University. Her bachelor’s degree is in Sociology and Anthropology from Gettysburg College.
